Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific discipline concerned with analyzing the principles of learning theory and systematically applying this knowledge to change behavior of social significance.  The name “Applied Behavior Analysis” has replaced behavior modification because the latter approach suggested attempting to change behavior without clarifying the relevant behavior  or environment interactions

  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the process of systematically applying interventions based upon the principles of learning theory to improve socially significant behaviors to a meaningful degree, and to demonstrate that the interventions employed are responsible for the improvement in behavior

  • The immense advantage of ABA focuses heavily on behavioral observation, ABA principles can be used to either increase or decrease that behavior. As a discipline, ABA providers are charged with the task of improving socially significant behaviours. Socially significant behaviors include communication, social skills, academics, reading, language, understanding and adaptive living skills such as gross and fine motor skills, toileting, dressing, eating, personal self care, domestic skills and work skills.

When comparing home based and center based ABA therapy, it is important to understand that the decision will depend on each childs unique situation.

  • Location is in the family’s home, there is no travel on the part of the family.
  • Much easier for the parent to see and hear the child and therapist interacting, leading to natural teaching opportunities and offers a known and comfortable environment.

One final argument for in-home services is the idea that ABA intervention doesn’t just happen during formal sessions but should be included in the Child’s everyday life, aiding in generalization. This philosophy is much easier to adopt when the services are provided in-home.

  • The company provides both in-home and center based therapies and can design a hybrid program for you combining the two. Our approach as always been to offer programs in both environment, and allow you to choose the approach that is most suitable for your child and family.
  • ABA Therapy kit is provided for each child with a Pecs book
When considering a center based program, some believe what could be viewed as weaknesses are actually strength.

  • Opportunities to socialize with others.
  • More opportunities to control the environment and facilitate more direct oversight than home based therapy.

The bottom line is that if your child is ready and not easily distracted by the more social environment a center based program may work for you.

  • Weekend and evening hours are available to fit your family’s schedule.
  • We offer expertise in EIBI (early intensive behavioral intervention).
  • We let you decide between the home and center based ABA therapy for a highly flexible and individualized treatment plan that fits your Childs unique needs.
